COLOMBIA HIGHLIGHTS DAY 01 WEDNESDAY: BOGOTA Arrival at the International airport of Bogotá, meet your english speaking guide and transfer to *** hotel located in the colonial area of the city. Accomodation and overnight. DAY 02 THURSDAY: CITY TOUR Breakfast and morning walking tour through the colonial section of La Candelaria, short stops for photographs at Plaza de Bolivar, the main square of Bogota. Here you will see the Cathedral, the Congress Palace, the Cardinal's Palace, the colonial church of El Sagrario, the House of Independence, the Palace of Justice and the City Hall. Visit to the famous Gold Museum, which houses the world greatest collection of prehispanic indian gold crafts. Afterwards drive through the residential area of the city and up the mountains to enjoy an excellent view of a big part of the city. Return to the hotel . Afternoon at leisure. Overnight. DAY 03 FRIDAY : BOGOTA – VILLA DE LEYVA Breakfast and morning departure Northward through the plateau of Bogota and the magnificent mountain scenery we reach our first stop at Puente de Boyaca, where Simon Bolivar defeated the Spanish forces and assured the Independence of Colombia in 1819. After this visit, we take a secondary road - full of landscapes and beautiful views in order to arrive in Samaca on our way to Villa de Leyva After arrival in Villa de Leyva, transfer to a nice *** colonial hotel, accomodation. Afternoon dedicated to a walking tour of Villa de Leyva, city founded in 1572 and famous because despite of the running of the centuries, it has kept that flavour of typical colonial towns. It seems that time has not passed by. The quite atmosphere together with the solitude of its streets and the easygoing life of its inhabitants, make you think you are in another era. Drive to the convent of the Ecce Homo located in the desertic area of La Candelaria for a visit . Return to Villa de Leyva. Overnight . DAY 04 SATURDAY : LOCAL MARKET – TOWN OF RAQUIRA – SALT CATHEDRAL – BOGOTA American breakfast at the hotel included. If Saturday, possibility to visit the local market. At mid-morning, departure with your luggage to the nearby town of Raquira , very well known because of its pottery. Continuation of the return trip to Bogotá; on the way stop at the town of Zipaquirá to visit the world famous underground Salt Cathedral . Arrival in Bogotá in the late afternoon, trasnfer to Htl Abadía Colonial .Overnight. DAY 05 SUNDAY : BOGOTA – NEIVA – SAN AGUSTIN Breakfast and morning transfer to the airport for the domestic flight to Neiva. Meet your english speaking guide and drive for about 5 hours, along the Magdalena Valley and on to the town of San Agustin. Some stops will be made to observe tobacco , grape, rice and cacao plantations .The mountain landscape , valleys and canyons like the Pericongo are marvellous as the trip goes from 400 meters above sea level to 1.700 where San Agustin is located. Arrival and transfer to the a wonderful *** hotel. Accomodation and afternoon walk to the Magdalena River streight . Return to the hotel, Overnight. DAY 06: ARCHAEOLOGY American breakfast included . Morning visits to the Archaeological Park, with Mesitas A. B and C, the Lavapatas Fountain, the Statues Forest and the Archaeological Museum. Afternoon at leisure; optional horse riding tour to one of the archaeological sites and observe the beautiful landscape of the region. Overnight. DAY 07 : ALTO DE LOS IDOLOS + SAN AGUSTIN – NEIVA - ARMENIA American breakfast . During the morning departure by road to the “Alto de los Idolos“, site of special interest for researchers and visitors. At midday return to Neiva , transfer to the airport for the flight to Bogotá with connection to Armenia at the Coffee Region . There, meet your guide and transfer to a well located *** fincahotel. The hacienda is located about 10 minutes from the airport and n 20 minutes from the city of Armenia. It has very nice gardens, a swimming pool, very comfortable rooms with private bathroom. Accomodation and overnight. DAY 08: COFFEE FARM + BOTANICAL GARDEN & BUTTERFLY PARK Breakfast and morning visit of a Coffee Farm where passengers can learn about the whole procedure of coffee, like planting,ripening, collecting, washing, drying, etc to a delicious cup of coffee. Afternoon visit to the Botanical Garden and Buterfly Park. Return to the hacienda and overnight. DAY 09: COCORA VALLEY + AND TOWNS OF THE COFFEE REGION Breakfast and drive to the town of Salento and admire one of the towns of the Coffee Region, where the typical architecture of their houses and the daily way of living can be observed. Continuation to the Cocora Valley , part of the Natural reserve of ACAIME, to observe the wax palm, national tree of Colombia. Visit also the town of Filandia . Return to the hacienda and overnight . DAY 10: ARMENIA- BOGOTA – CARTAGENA Breakfast and morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Bogotá with connection to Cartagena. Today Catagena is Colombia’s fifth largest city, has the best preserved colonial architecture in the country and is one of the most famous vacational resorts. It is declared ‘Patrimony of Humanity’. At the airport meet your guide and transfer to colonial *** hotel, located in the colonial area of the city. Accomodation and afternoon 2 hours walking tour along the colonial area of the city through the narrow streets to observe the walls that surround the city, the main square Plaza de Bolivar as well as the colonial architecture of houses and churches. Return to the hotel. Overnight. DAY 11 : OPTIONAL ROSARIO ISLANDS Breakfast and day at leisure. Opportunity to take an optional tour to the Rosario Island, ISLA DEL ENCANTO Departure from the pier by motorboat to the beautiful islands of El Rosario, located 1 1/2 hrs. south of the Bay of Cartagena. There, right to the Isla del Encanto , a beautiful resort for the day tour, with about 200 meters of white sand beaches and cristal clear water . A nice swimming pool with sea water can be used as well as many hammoks to take a rest. Lunch included and during the early afternoon return to Cartagena. Overnight at your Htl Pedro de Heredia . DAY 12: AT LEISURE Breakfast and day at leisure. Opportunity to take an optional Half Day tour to LA BOQUILLA , a fishermanvillage about 30 minutes by car from Cartagena, where passengers will be taken by natives in dugout canoes through the mangrove laberinths of the swamps closeby to the village. Afternoon opportunity to visit the Hill and Convent of La Popa, The Fort of San Felipe or the Convent of San Pedro claver in the colonial section of the city. DAY 13: TRANSFER OUT OF COLOMBIA Breakfast and during the morning transfer to the airport for the flight to Bogotá with connection to your next destination.
